A Lorna Murray Moment

MILLINERY BEAUTY
Sun Hats – The Beauty of Brims. Millinery is the age-old art and craft which holds a sense of reward for the individuals who practice it. A milliner, a word that initially referred to an individual who resided in Milan, Italy, is a person who specialises in making beautiful headpieces.
And this is the art that is Lorna Murray. The design of artisanal creations where effortless glamour meets coastal luxury. The collections are inspired by rich craft-based histories, eclectic urban environments and glorious natural landscapes.
There is something so appealing about their pieces that also gives you a feeling of happiness.
Beautiful sun hats are for more than just being by the sea.

tHE BRAND NOTES
Lorna Murray is a designer, textile artist and university lecturer in art, fashion and textiles. And has spent time learning traditional weaving crafts from around the world.
You will discover that her creative skills are nourished not just from these traditions but also the streetscape around her that inspires her art and design techniques.
It is in her studio in Sydney and the diverse creative and rich cultures of South East Asia that Lorna looks to ideas and inspiration to create that next piece or collection.
Sun hats are the beauty of brims – a beauty life moment to covet.

The Lorna Murray collection is with The Pleated Hat. A design that was intentionally created for a modern lifestyle and can be folded. It is this intensive thought to the overall design that gives the label such charm. But this is only the beginning of the story.

SLOW FASHION CURATION
The collaboration with approved teams of artisans in Indonesia bring their expertise to the intricate processes of weaving, sewing, embroidery, beading and patternmaking.
All the brand’s grass fibre hats are 100% natural materials, grown organically without the use of pesticides. The curation of each hat is made using low-impact production weaving techniques using dyed and undyed fibres.
Lorna Murray engages in slow-fashion textile production. The collections are not mass produced with the philosophy of following a zero-waste policy as closely as possible.
Slow fashion does not have to mean bypassing style. This can only add to the making of beautiful hats.

PANAMA HAT LOVE
I have always loved hats, not only for the craftsmanship exhibited by those who create them, but also for the simple beauty in wearing one. And I am particularly drawn to the style and grace of a classic Panama design. It must be the brim!
Despite the name the Panama originated in Ecuador. The only place in the world that has such a long-lasting weaving tradition. The construction workers whose strength was tested building the Panama canal used Ecuadorian Hats as protection from the harsh sun.
The name ‘Panama Hat’ was introduced in 1906, when photos of President Roosevelt were published in the press, while he was overseeing the Panama Canal construction.

Lorna Murray Panama collections are authentically crafted in Ecuador. With each hat embellished with natural fibre trims.
For this season Beauty Life Moments coverts the Sunshine Coast design for its elegantly curved ridge at the top of the crown, turned up brim and grosgrain ribbon finish.
