Feed Your Mind
In Feed Your Mind, Carly Taylor shares how confidence begins within—and how regular exercise is not just for the body, but a powerful gift to your mental wellbeing too.

THE WELLBEING OF MOVEMENT
Move Everyday – A Gift for Your Mind and Body
We’ve all heard that exercise is good for us, but did you know it’s just as important for your brain as it is for your body? Movement doesn’t just strengthen your muscles or improve your fitness—it also nurtures your mental health and helps you think clearly, feel calmer, and build resilience.
When you exercise, your body releases a powerful protein called BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor). Think of BDNF as fertiliser for your brain—it helps grow new neurons, strengthens existing ones, and improves connections between them. This supports memory, focus, and overall brain health. Even a brisk walk can boost BDNF levels, showing how simple movement can have profound effects on your mind and brain.
Exercise is also one of the best ways to lift your mood. Physical activity triggers the release of endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine—chemicals that naturally make you feel happier and less stressed. It’s no surprise that regular movement is one of the most effective tools for managing anxiety and depression.
Aim to move throughout the day. It could be a walk in nature, dancing in your living room, or yoga on your mat. Do a movement snack in between meetings or break up sitting behind the computer – get up and stretch, walk, squat, dance. Remind yourself—you’re not just moving for fitness; you’re moving to nurture your mind, your mood, and your well-being

FIND YOUR INNER CONFIDENCE
Confidence Verses Competence – How They Work Together
Here’s the tricky part: confidence and competence don’t always match. You might be highly skilled yet doubt yourself, holding back from opportunities. Or you might feel confident but lack the skills, leaving you unprepared when it matters most. The magic happens when confidence and competence work together—when you tap into courage and trust yourself enough to try, and in turn develop the skills to grow stronger.
For many of us, doubt creeps in, whispering, “What if I’m not good enough?” But here’s the truth: confidence doesn’t come from knowing everything; it grows when you act, learn, and keep showing up. The Latin word for confidence is con (with) and fidere (trust), so to have confidence is to have trust in yourself.
Take-Home Tip – Start small. This week, choose one task slightly outside your comfort zone. Prepare as best as you can, and then do it. Celebrate the effort, not the outcome. Each attempt builds competence, and with it, confidence.
Remember, confidence is a journey, not a destination. You are exactly as you are right now, so now take that next step.
