A Bedroom Refresh
Jacqueline Nelson, Founder of Blanche Rose, curates a bedroom refresh – styling a modern classic look from the collection and sharing tips to prepare a bedroom ready for any season.
You can refresh and restyle your bedroom over a weekend to create a new sense of style and hints of luxury with just a few beautiful pieces.

Begin At The Beginning
Take Everything Off Your Bed
Firstly, pop feather and down pillows, duvet inners and mattress toppers out in the sun to remove any damp and moisture.
If you are unable to put out in the sun pop them in the dryer to air. They need to be dry to keep you warm and comfortable.
My Mattress Tip
‘After taking all of these off my bed and airing them in the sun I have taken the mattress off my bed to add a valance.’

A Valance Styling
Work From The Bottom Up
When looking to refresh your bedroom start from the valance (if needed) do you want a dark colour so that shoes don’t mark it or do you want light tones and bright?
The Valance Colour
‘A black velvet valance wrapped around the base of the bed will be practical and luxurious creating a great foundation for the upper bed.’

The Headboard Styling
The Headboard Style
Do you want a headboard to frame your bed … will this be patterned or plain. And what fabric do you like – textured, linen or velvet? If no headboard you can use European pillowcases to give some additional height.
A Headboard Statement
‘To add interest the headboard will be rectangle shape stand high and covered in the beautiful delicate floral ‘Bukhara’ by Andrew Martin.’

A Story Of Whites
The Bed Linen
Blanche Rose suggests pure cotton or linen sheets as these breathe making for a restful nights sleep.
Balance makes things easier on the eye therefore we suggest having either European or standard set of pillowcases that match your duvet cover. So the same fabric at the top and bottom of the bed.
My Classic Selection
‘Hudson black corded pillowcases, sheets and duvet cover for effortless elegance. Both the white and black will team beautifully with the floral ‘Bukhara’ by Andrew Martin headboard. Or with a classic black linen headboard for a more elegant and timeless look.’
The Hudson Collection Story
The craftsmanship of this luxurious bed linen is simply understated decadence. Silky smooth 100% Egyptian cotton, double row black corded sheeting has a 500 per 10cmsq thread count. The finish of the Hudson Collection is sateen with a fine dense thread it has a high sheen finish.

A Layer Of Interest
Throws And Cushions
Cushions are a great way to layer and add interest. Throws can be decorative and practical.
We like to lay one across the end of the bed so if you having an afternoon nap or a relaxing moment you can use this for comfort.
A Little Goes A Long Way
‘To compliment the Hudson black corded and add texture and warmth the “well-loved’ black fur by Carlucci can be layered on the bed in cushions and a throw.’

The Modern Touches
The Bedside Styling
Think about your personal style and theme for your bedroom and home – should these be modern and sleek, or antique and classic?
It is very dependent on your personal style.
My Bedside Pieces
‘Along side the bed I would place the USM white bedside tables as these are fine and functional working well with the headboard and bed linen.
On top of the side tables I would place an Atollo white lamp from Euroluce, a Waterford crystal vase full of white roses and a Cristal candle by Blanche Rose. The first shelf would hold some of my favourite books on fashion, interiors and beautiful gardens.’
